I eat here with my in laws all the time. The food is always amazing and the service is always good. I love going there for birthdays they always give me the best experience. I love their fried ice cream it's amazing. I'll eat here again and again and never get tired of it. The food is always so good!

The salsa here is really good, but different. It's very sweet. They also have amazing sweet tea (so hard to find in this town for some reason). It's the best place to run in and grab a quick lunch on your lunch hour (or 30 minutes in my case). Lunches run from $3.99-$5.99 and come out almost immediately. Get the El Rancho burrito: you won't even be able to eat it all! There's also apparently a great happy hour, but I haven't been around for that yet.

I really hate to do it, but my last experience here was so terrible that I can't in good conscience ever go back. My parents were treating me to lunch for my birthday and El Rancho was the restaurant that I had chosen. The decor has stayed exactly the same, and that welcoming atmosphere got my hopes up as we walked in the door. That was about as close as my experience got to the perfect review I had previously given El Rancho. Despite only a few tables being taken, the service was incredibly slow. We eventually got chips and salsa and some menus, and all quickly decided what we wanted to order. While we waited about 10 minutes for the waiter to come back, we tried to munch on the chips and salsa. The salsa tasted like it came straight out of a can, so this proved quite impossible. I was beginning to feel a pang of fear that one of my favorite restaurants had lost its touch. We eventually ordered and the food actually came out fairly quick - about 8-10 minutes. I got the chicken chimichanga again, always my favorite here. I don't recall exactly what my parents got, but I know both of their plates contained a chili relleno. Upon attempting to eat their chilis, both said it had an incredibly sour taste. I tried a small bite of one of them and sure enough, the peppers had gone rotten. I had eaten most of my chimichanga by then, which had been great, but lost my appetite after trying the rancid poblano. My dad's plate also came with a guacamole salad, and he and I both noticed immediately that the tomato slice atop this salad had a massive black spot on it - so rotten as to be completely inedible. When we were finally able to get the waiter's attention, we notified him of the rotten items and he took 50% off the two rotten plates - far less than most restaurants would do that had just served you rotten food, but an attempt nonetheless. That's about the only thing that keeps them from dropping to one star, but their review will never go back up as I simply cannot support a business that serves rotten food to me or my family.

Just so-so and it didn't help that I had a devil of a time finding them. My GPS took me about a quarter of a mile from where they are located and I had to call the restaurant TWICE to finally locate them. What tipped me off is that they said they are next to Speedy Cash and the address for that place took me right there. Odd. The food is passable but nothing remarkable or even deeply enjoyable. I am in Baton Rouge for business and am seriously considering opening a top notch Mexican restaurant here as it seems the area is lacking.

Great food and great service. If you're into authentic Hispanic restaurants this one is for you. The food is just good with reasonable prices. Serving is great it can actually feed two people. Plus the salsa is good!

The food is good, plentiful, and reasonably priced. My only complaint is that once your food arrives, service is pretty much nonexistent. Refills on drinks are slow, if at all, and it takes far longer to get the bill than it should once it's clear everyone is done eating.

Salsa is always good, and fajitas are great. This place is 20 min away from our house, but the drive is worth it

We have been coming here for a while. It would be great if they had a Zachary location. The food is awesome, service is great, and a nice atmosphere. Best mexican in Baton Rouge by far. Worth the money.

This is the best Tex/Mex restaurant in Baton Rouge. Since it's near my home, I'm a frequent visitor. Flavors of meats in tacos, tamales, etc. are just excellent. Chimichangas are lighter than what one typically expects. Prices are much more reasonable than trendier Mexican places in town, but food is better. I often just order a few tacos or something off the a la carte menu and am amply satisfied. Acceptable margaritas, two for one most nights, I think. My family joins me in the assessment that it's the best.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
